Dunstable MA Community Profile & History
Dunstable, Massachusetts is a rural community located just south of the New Hampshire border. Dunstable once comprised 200 square miles extending from Londonderry, MA, to Chelmsford, MA. Now it encompasses a little over 17 square miles and borders Pepperell, Tyngsboro, and Groton in Massachusetts as well as Nashua and Hollis in New Hampshire.
The original town was named in honor of Mrs. Edward Tyng, who emigrated from Dunstable in Bedfordshire, England. Just a short drive from major commercial and cultural centers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, Dunstable maintains a quiet rural character and a strong sense of its colonial past. Traveling through Dunstable today, one sees houses that can be traced back to some of Dunstable's original settlers.
